Complete List of Courses and Projects
PM denotes a project on which I performed a project manager role (number of team members includes myself). First iteration means that in addition to taking the course, I also provided significant suggestions for improving the course because it had never been taught before.
Semester 8 (Fall 2013):
Independent Study: Product Design and Business Development
- Worked on starting my own company, Lilypad Scales. We are designing a scale for wheelchair users to use to weigh themselves at home.Discrete Math
- Designed a discrete math curriculum for elementary school students to be used for enrichment math for a few students or for the whole class.
Semester 7 (Spring 2013):
Senior Capstone Program in Engineering (SCOPE)
- Went through a user-oriented design process to design new tools for navigating to and identifying lung cancer (details) - PM of 6-person team
- Project began in Semester 6
Electrical Prototyping
- Designed a printed circuit board for a motor controller circuit, then assembled, tested, and modified until it controlled a motor successfully
- Designed a circuit with both analog and digital components, then designed, assembled, and tested a PCB with that circuit
Analog/Digital Communications
- Created programs in LabVIEW that coded a text message into sound, sent it through air, and received and decoded the signal
Uganda Microgrid Research Project
- Modeled microgrids that might be used to power a hospital in Uganda reliably
-Visited hospital site in Uganda in August 2013 and worked with local technicians to improve power system design
Semester 6 (Fall 2012):
Sustainable Design
- Redesigned ironing to be more sustainable (details) - PM of 4-person team
- Created a sustainability-oriented design build for elementary school students (details)
Computer Architecture
- Designed and built an FPGA music visualizer (details)
- Wrote many simulations in Verilog, including a full adder, a register file, and a complete single-cycle CPU
Robotics
- Wrote software in LabVIEW to follow a path using camera images, find obstacles using infrared, and control different motors
- Participated in a challenge to navigate an autonomous robotic sailboat around obstacles
Paradigms, Predictions, and Joules - first iteration
- Investigated how environmental factors contributed to the collapse of the Dorset Paleo-Eskimo culture
- Using a simulation in LEAP, worked with a model of Mexico's energy use to suggest policies Mexico might use to reduce carbon emissions
- Analyzed how cultural factors in London have influenced its carbon footprint over centuries
Senior Capstone Program in Engineering (SCOPE)
- Went through a user-oriented design process to design new tools for navigating to and identifying lung cancer (details) - PM of 6-person team
- Project will continue into semester 7
Semester 5 (Spring 2012):
Controls
- Designed an automatic guitar tuner using control theory (details)
Arts and Humanities Capstone Project
- Worked with 3 environmental organizations and provided them with specific recommendations for improvement (details)
The Entrepreneurial Initiative - first iteration
- Worked with the Olin dining hall to introduce more vegetarian options (details)
Modern Biology
Semester 4 (Spring 2011):
User-Oriented Collaborative Design
- Designed a product to help people who work with visually impaired children (details) - PM of 5-person team
Cultures of Environmentalism (Wellesley College)
- Attended the PowerShift conference and wrote a paper about strengths, weaknesses, and suggestions for improvement for the organization running the conference (the Energy Action Coalition)
Microelectronic Circuits (focus on transistors)
Signals and Systems - first iteration
Semester 3 (Fall 2010):
Principles of Engineering
- Connected a stationary bicycle to Google Street View to create an interactive exercise experience (details)
Software Design
- Wrote a collaborative project tool in Python (details)
Computational Probability and Statistics - first iteration
- Wrote a paper using probability and statistics and Python to analyze educational data about Olin
Oral and Written Communication in Spanish (Wellesley College)
Differential Equations - first iteration
Linear Algebra
Semester 2 (Spring 2010):
Real World Measurements - first iteration
- Built a sonar system using circuitry and LabVIEW to measure the depth of a lake (details)
Material Science
- Explored the material science properties of Nitinol, an alloy often used as an actuator in robotics
Electric Power and the Environment (Wellesley College)
- Wrote a paper about fuel cell vehicles
Experimental Mechanics
Vector Calculus - first iteration
Semester 1 (Fall 2009):
Design Nature
- Designed and built a hopping frog toy that waited one second after activation to do a single backflip
- Designed and built a swimming squid toy in a team of four students
Modeling and Simulation of the Physical World
- Modeled school attendance in an African country, the delivery of a drug through the body, and a Segway scooter
Modeling and Control of Compartmentalized Systems
Music Composition
- Composed and performed a 14-singer a capella salsa song, as well as many smaller compositions
