The Telebike: Adding a New Dimension to Exercise

What?

In Fall 2010 a team of students and I made a bicycle connected to Google Street View, or alternately connected to control the computer game Tron. It got more difficult to pedal with elevation, your speed correlates with your speed on the screen, and handlebars control where you ride.

Why?

The device turns an ordinary bicycle into a fun, interesting stationary bicycling experience.

How?

I wrote firmware for a PIC microcontroller, hooked it up to sensors, wrote a software inferface in Python, and created a mechanical system which integrated with my team's Google Streetview interface. Check out the system diagram, PIC C code, and Python code.
